Target Internship: Engineering

The Big Picture: “During my internship with Colorado Springs Utilities, I was able to participate in hands-on projects not only in my field of study but many other areas of engineering and business. In addition, I learned new skills and honed others that will help me as I continue my education and begin to build a foundation for my career.” -Josh, 2009 Graduate

“I feel that I got some very good “real world” engineering experience. I was also very pleased to find that the projects I worked on involved much of what I have learned in school. Thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, math, machine design, the list just keeps going. I am very glad to have had this opportunity and it has helped me make up my mind that I want to work in the power industry.” -Intern, 2008 Graduate

Supervisor Perspective: “It was fun to do targeted assignments for each intern. These included site drainage, schematic and wiring diagram creation and editing, structural inspections, structure damage remediation, coal testing and BTU prediction and more. Interns allowed us to get a number of these projects moving forward with guidance from a mentor and use them as teaching tools at the same time. The interns’ collaboration and camaraderie were excellent.” -Supervisor, Colorado Springs Utilities
